Encourage neatness and tidiness to your kids by helping them with a do-it-yourself desk organizer. This is a great Back-To-School craft that can be both a pretty addition to a child’s desk and an educational tool.

Stimulate bedtime reading to your kids by building a great book display for their bedrooms. They’ll have easy access to books anytime of the day. This will prepare your home to be a scholastic haven that will help make the transition from summer days to an academically structured day much easier.

Kids are more likely to stay organized if they have a chart that helps them. With this handy dandy chart family members can keep track of chores, important documents or leave messages for one another.

Get your kids excited about going back to school by having them make their own designer book cover!

Get your kids excited about going back to school with this great family craft. Have them make their own designer book cover! Choose any material like tie-dye fabric or a different patterned cloth, whatever suits your taste. You’ll need:

Brown paper bag

Pieces of fabric cloth

Glue

Bowl

Water

Paintbrush

Wax paper

Scissors

Textbook

1. First you need to cut the paper bag by cutting from the top of the bag to the bottom along the corner creases. Also cut the bottom of the bag completely.

2. Place your textbook in the middle of the brown paper cover .Folding the top and bottom of the brown paper cover so that it is now exactly the size of the textbook, crease the folds and bring the side of the brown paper cover over the book.

3. Open the cover of the book and fold the left side of the paper around the cover of the book. Do the same with the other side. Open the cover and mark the paper at about half the width of the book cover. Do the same with the other side. Remove the paper from the cover and trim the paper to where you marked it with scissors.

4. Slide the cover back onto the text book to make sure it fits. Adjust the brown paper cover if it feels too snug or too loose. Once it fits properly, remove and set aside.

5. Line the area where you will be working with wax paper. Mix 2/3 cup glue and 1/3 cup water in bowl with your paintbrush.

6. Cut fabric into about 2” x 2” pieces. Open paper book cover and place “better” side up onto the wax paper. Start by painting a 2” section in a top corner of the paper with glue mixture. Next place a piece of fabric on the glue, add more glue and paint over the piece of fabric scrap, smoothing with your paintbrush as you go. Scrap should be saturated. Repeat until the paper cover is completely covered with overlapping pieces of fabric.

7. Once your paper is covered, open the book cover up and place textbook back inside and carefully close the book. Place a piece of wax paper in between the front cover and front page and the back cover and the back page. This will keep the cover from actually sticking to the book as it dries. Allow to dry overnight.

Cut a 20”X8” rectangular piece of fabric. Also cut a long rectangular piece of fabric for the shoulder strap.

Cut a 20”X8”piece of your second fabric, this will serve as the lining.

Place the lining fabric onto the main fabric, tuck it with pins and sew the four sides together to make it a one.

Symmetrically fold the fabric widthwise and sew the open ends together.

Next, fold the strap fabric lengthwise and sew along the entire length of the strap, this will add durability.

Sew the two ends of the strap about 1 inch deep inside the open end of the bag.
